With Deep Gratitude to:
Celebrating the legacy of Mary Ella Dignam - past, present and future - via vibrant Artists exhibiting at The Dignam Gallery
The ARTISTS of the DIGNAM Gallery BOOK
Kindly note: this website ( like us all) is a work in progress. Thank-you!
(Purpose, passion, and logistics behind our ADG Book: ( and Yes! We can now provide receipts...)
This is an art-lover, volunteer-driven publishing campaign united by our respect for Mary Ella Dignam's legacy as a Canadian, a woman, an artist - and a pioneering inclusion activist and "social entrepreneur" 100 years before her time!
To take care of all legal matters and the ability to offer receipts to all the contributing Artists, artlegacy.ca, Inc. has been successfully registered with Corporations Canada and we have partnered with an existing Charity ( with a Charitable number) who is willing to partner with us and can provide receipts.
Sections + Layout of our Book:
1. The first section of the book will share Mary Ella Dignam's story and her struggles, pain, and passion to triumph for women of her time, which has ultimately inspired and benefited all Canadian artists leading to today! Some of Mary Ella Dignam's works are now "public domain" and we will liaise with the Canadian Organizations as listed in Government of Canada link here:
We will also be contacting Private Collectors who wish to include Mary Ella's works from their private collection in our book (with recognition, of course). We are also very fortunate to have a renowned Canadian photographer on our team who will take professional photographs to heighten the visual appeal of our book.
2. The second section of the book will share the Art + Story of diverse artists who have exhibited at The Dignam Gallery and the Ruth Upjohn Gallery via a double page spread of each Artist - in alphabetical order by FIRST NAME.
rZilient, Inc. our marketing + PR partner has offered to create a web page for every artist in the book pro bono -which means that each of the participating Artists will have a web page to point to as well on our website - and that can include their photograph, contact information, social and website links to create.
Gloria's idea was that this initiative could also be used as an additional fundraiser for the book for anyone who can donate above the $200 entry point from 2023 ( which is till being honoured). The suggested donation is $100 ( and we are not paying any kind of honorarium for these web pages) but for those who can not donate, or do not see the value of the web page
To be completely inclusive and celebrate as many artists journeys as possible, the artists do not need to be WAAC members (now or ever) the only requirement is that their work was once on exhibition at the gallery. We will be reaching out to the families of deceased artists as well to be completely inclusive of their legacies as well.
A Proposed Book Trilogy to celebrate Mary Ella Dignam legacy yesterday, today and tomorrow. Stay tuned!
( Should Mary Ella Dignam be selected as a Canadian Stamp Subject - the "book of stamps" could possibly coincide with the publishing of our books)

Are YOU still in OUR BOOK - Answers to your Questions - to help you decide!
Q: When do you expect the book to be published?
A: Our goal is to have our book published before the end of 2024.
Q: Will this book be sold as a Fundraiser for WAAC?
A: Our financial goal is to break even with the publishing of the book and cover any event costs but out for respect for Mary Ella Dignam's legacy. Once we have met these
obligations, we will be donating money to WAAC to create The Artists of the Dignam Scholarship to be awarded to an OCAD University Student for as long as possible.
Additionally, we will offer the esteemed WAAC Co-Presidents an opportunity to extend heartfelt congratulations to all the Artist Participants via a published paragraph at the beginning of the book, should they like to be included in this manner.
Q: Yes! I want IN - what are the next steps for payment?
A: If you have already given WAAC the first payment of $100, we have been assured you will receive a reimbursement by requesting it. We now have a registered not~for~ profit company in place and will direct your $200 payment to that account . Details to follow, regarding a GoFundMe campaign.
Q: Yes! I want IN - how do get my artwork to you? Do you have an instruction sheet I can follow?
A: Yes, your high resolution images will need to be sent to a designated site . We hope to provide page templates to allow you to place images as you prefer. Also a bio including your year of birth, as well as an artist statement describing your style and medium etc should be included.
Q: I have changed my mind, how do I get my $100 deposit back?
A: Please email the Co-Presidents or office staff at WAAC for your refund.
Q: Do you want to have your very own ARTIST page on this website? ( complimentary any donation gratefully accepted )
A: Absolutely! Do you? Please let me know below...
